DR P2
DR P2 is a Danish radio station run by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). It focuses on classical music—both recordings and live performances—and also covers news and discussions about the classical music world. Since 1991, P2 has organized a chamber music competition for promising young musicians every two years.
History:
- 1 October 1951: Launched as Program 2 by Statsradiofonien.
- 1959: Statsradiofonien became Danmarks Radio, later DR.
- 1960: Regional programming began in the evenings.
- 1969: Switched to nationwide stereo output.
- 1980: Classical music began broadcasting in the evenings.
- 2001: Won rights to a new nationwide FM channel and relaunched as DR P2 Musik & Kultur on 1 September; regional programming moved to DR P4.
- 2011: Lost the fourth nationwide FM channel rights; P1 and P2 shared the channel from 1 November; DR P2 became DR P2 Klassisk, continuing on digital and online.
- 2013: DR P2 Klassisk renamed to DR P2.
- 2017: P2 became available on DAB+ nationwide.
