Tanjina Toma
Tanjina Toma, born Tanjina Pervin, is a Bangladeshi singer, music educator, and social advocate. She was born in Dinajpur and grew up in Dhaka. She trained in Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore songs) and Indian classical music at Chhayanaut and became a senior-grade artiste on national television and radio, often hosting programs.
She began releasing music in 2011. Her albums include Modhu Jamini (2011), Jibon Kotha (2013), Khujey Berai (2014), and Tumi O Ami (2015). In 2023 she released Tomar Songey and Hriday Majhe. Since 2014 she has released more than 100 singles, such as Gahono Kusumo (2023), Megh Bolechhe Jabo Jabo (2023), Amra Emni Ese Bheshe Jai (2024), and O Je Mane Na Mana (2024). Her songs are available on YouTube, Spotify, and SoundCloud.
In 2015, Toma founded Bibhash Cultural Academy and serves as its principal. The academy teaches music and arts to children from diverse backgrounds, with a focus on children with special needs. It uses music as a form of therapy to support emotional well-being and social inclusion.
Toma has performed widely in Bangladesh, India, and abroad. Highlights include performances at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka with support from the Government of India, invitations from ICCR Kolkata, and regular recitals at the National Museum in Dhaka. She participated in International Mother Language Day in The Hague (2023) and a Paris event (2024). She has also toured in Delhi, Kolkata, Tripura, and Bhubaneswar with support from various cultural organizations, as well as trips to Germany, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Philippines, and Thailand from 2010 to 2025.
She is a leader in Tagore music circles, holding roles with Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha and Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad, and is on the executive committee of Music Club Bangladesh. Her work is widely shared online and with audiences around the world.
Toma has received awards such as the 2016 Performing Arts Award in Bangladesh and the 2025 71 Media Iconic Award, and was nominated for a Times of India Award in 2025. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business management and a five-year diploma in music.
