Plasmodium mabuiae
Plasmodium mabuiae is a parasite from the genus Plasmodium, subgenus Carinamoeba. Like other Plasmodium species, it relies on both a vertebrate and an insect host to complete its life cycle. The reptile is the vertebrate host for this species, and it was first described by Weyon in 1909 in Sudan.
In P. mabuiae, the schizonts are small, typically no larger than the host cell nucleus, and each schizont produces four to eight merozoites. The gametocytes are elongated and about the same size as the host cell nucleus, located diagonally at one end of the host cell.
Geographically, this species has been found in Tanzania, specifically in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro. It infects the African striped skink, Mabuya striata.
