Currant Events is a 2004 fantasy novel by Piers Anthony. It is the 28th Xanth book and the first in the second Xanth trilogy. The story follows Clio, the Muse of History, who leaves her mountain home to find a currant that will clarify the 28th volume of Xanth’s history. The Good Magician tells her the currant is key and that her service is to restock the extinct dragons of Xanth. He also gives her a magical compass to guide her and she picks Becka, a dragon girl from Castle Maidragon, to escort her. Che Centaur helps prepare bodies for dragon spirits.

Clio travels across Xanth and into Mundania, recruiting dragons from Ida’s moon with help from two tiny telepathic dragons, Drew and Drusie, whose romance is forbidden. On Ida she meets Dragon Ida, a sentient moon, and uses the Dragon-net to bring the recruited dragon souls back to Xanth. She meets Sherlock, a man who can summon reverse wood, and he builds golems Getaway and Comealong to accompany him. Sherlock joins Clio on her quest and they move through various parts of Xanth.

Clio visits Castle Zombie and Ptero, where she confronts the Mundane sorceress Morgan le Fay through a device called The Spancel. With Sherlock’s aid she defeats the sorceress and a dangerous threat, then returns to Mount Parnassus to find the currant plant. They revive it with artifacts and grow the big currant, only to discover that the 28th volume was replaced by Humfrey’s Book of Answers. Sherlock uses his power to switch the books back, and they decipher the text. Clio realizes Sherlock is a powerful mage and they fall in love, with help from Drew and Drusie. They adopt Ciriana and decide to live a calmer life in Xanth. Clio learns the whole adventure was a Demon bet, a fact Venus confirms.

Dragon Ida is one of Ida’s moons and is described as sentient. The dragons on the moon are arranged in five categories, with 3,125 possible dragon types. Drew and Drusie are tiny, telepathic dragons who are allowed to live on Dragon, though their different weapons (Drew’s fire and Drusie’s steam) prevent them from breeding there.
