54 Arietis is a distant red giant star in the northern constellation Aries. It’s quite faint for the naked eye, with an apparent magnitude of about 6.27, and sits roughly 740 light-years away. The star is moving away from us at about 44 km/s, and its light is slightly dimmed by interstellar dust.

This star is an aging M-type giant (M0 III) on the asymptotic giant branch. It has swollen to about 41 times the Sun’s radius and shines with roughly 387 times the Sun’s luminosity, at a surface temperature of about 4,013 K. Because it lies near the ecliptic, it can be occulted by the Moon.

54 Arietis also shows small brightness changes: its brightness varies every 6.2 days by about 0.01 magnitudes. It has many other catalog names, including BD+18°414, FK5 4285, HD 19460, HIP 14586, HR 940, and SAO 93293.
