Franklin Avenue (Los Angeles)
Franklin Avenue is a street in Los Angeles. It is the northernmost main thoroughfare in Hollywood, lying north of Hollywood Boulevard and forming the southern edge of the Hollywood Hills. The avenue runs about five miles, from Sierra Bonita Avenue in Whitley Heights on the west to Clayton Avenue/Ronda Vista Drive in Los Feliz on the east, with major junctions at Highland Avenue, the US 101/Vine Street area, Western Avenue, and Vermont Avenue.
Starting as a residential street off Sierra Bonita, Franklin Avenue becomes the southern border of Whitley Heights as you head east and then turns into a major east–west road through the Hollywood Hills, ending in Los Feliz. From west to east, notable spots along the route include the Magic Castle at Franklin and North Orange Drive.
Franklin Avenue runs through the Franklin Village neighborhood, and nearby landmarks include the site of the first Hollywood-area house, built in 1854 by Tomás Urquidez near what would become Franklin and Outpost Drive. Other points of interest include Hollywood United Methodist Church at Franklin and Highland; the Montecito Apartments at Franklin and Cherokee; the Hollywood Tower, located one block west of Franklin and Gower Street (a popular spot for Hollywood Sign photos); Château Élysée (the former residence of movie stars, now the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre) at Franklin and Bronson, with Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and Villa Carlotta nearby; Immaculate Heart High School at Franklin and Western; and the John Sowden House at Franklin and Normandie. The Shakespeare Bridge is near Franklin and St. George Street in the Franklin Hills area of Los Feliz.
