Peggy Hamilton
Peggy Hamilton (born Mae Bedloe Armstrong; 1894–February 26, 1984) was an American fashion and costume designer, fashion editor, and radio personality. She designed dresses for many silent-film stars in the 1920s and 1930s, including Gloria Swanson, Myrna Loy, Norma Shearer, Dolores del Río, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, and Greta Garbo. She edited a fashion column in the Los Angeles Times from 1921 to 1934 and was a fashion commentator on the radio from 1929 to 1933. Born in Colorado, she grew up in Los Angeles and studied fashion in New York and Buenos Aires. She began designing in New York in the 1910s, then moved to Los Angeles to work for the Triangle Film Corporation. She hosted the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and helped popularize Los Angeles-made fashions. She was married several times, including to John Quincy Adams IV. Hamilton lived in Hollywood and died of cancer in 1984 at about age 90.
