Constant Bar (14 October 1817 – June 1884) was a French entomologist who studied butterflies and moths. He was born in Nantes and died in Paramaribo. Bar lived in French Guiana at L’île Portal in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni with his three brothers, collecting insects for his own research and for other scientists such as Charles Oberthür. In 1878 he published a critique of the different butterfly classification systems used since Latreille and proposed a new system up to the level of genera. He became a member of the Société entomologique de France in 1854. Bar is honored in the names Hypercompe bari, Heliconia bari, and Parides lysander bari.
