WCGA
WCGA (1100 AM) is a news/talk radio station licensed to Woodbine, Georgia. It serves Brunswick, Georgia and Fernandina Beach, Florida. The station broadcasts 10,000 watts by day and carries programming from Fox News Radio and the Salem Radio Network. It is owned by Cox Broadcast Group, Inc., which is not the same as Cox Media Group or Cox Enterprises.
History:
- The station started as WGBE in 1986, became WGMM in 1987, and signed on June 15, 1987 with religious programming and southern gospel.
- Miller Broadcasting sold WGMM to Cox Broadcast Group in 1988 for $25,000; the call sign changed to WCGA on November 30, 1988.
- In 1997, after a period of silence, WCGA returned to the air with a talk format.
- The FCC cancelled the license on March 17, 2005 for non-renewal, but after renewal filings the license was restored in May 2007 with a $7,000 fine to Cox Broadcast Group.
- On January 15, 2020, the FCC revoked WCGA’s license for unpaid regulatory fees, but the revocation was rescinded on February 11, 2020 after the agency reviewed Cox’s response.
