IK Partners
IK Partners is a European private equity firm that invests in small- and mid-sized companies across northern and western Europe. It was founded in 1989 as Industri Kapital by Björn Savén and Kim Wahl, with roots in Enskilda Ventures and the Scandinavian Acquisition Capital Fund. In 1993, it became independent after a management buyout and was renamed Industri Kapital 1989 fund. The firm later opened offices in Stockholm and Oslo, and expanded to Hamburg, Paris, and Amsterdam. It changed its name to IK Investment Partners in 2008 and to IK Partners in 2021.
The company is headquartered in London and has more than 200 employees. As of 2024, Wendel owns a 51% stake in IK Partners, paying about €3.8 billion. IK Partners manages roughly €19 billion in assets.
IK Partners has raised a series of funds over the years, including IK 1994 (€250 million), IK 1997 (€750 million), IK 2000 (€2.1 billion), IK 2004 (€825 million), IK 2007 (€1.7 billion), and IK VII (€1.4 billion in 2013). It has also run small-cap funds (IK Small Cap I: €277 million in 2015; IK Small Cap II: €550 million in 2018; IK Small Cap III: €1.2 billion in 2021) and partnership funds (IK Partnership I: €300 million in 2019; IK Partnership II: €335 million in 2021). The latest flagship, IK X, closed in 2025 at €3.3 billion, the largest to date. The firm launched IK Strategic Opportunities I in 2024 with €505 million.
Recent deals include the 2023 acquisitions of Ipsum Group (UK) from Aliter, Medica Group for £269 million, and GoodLife Foods (Netherlands). IK Partners, together with Summit Partners, acquired a majority stake in Cinerius Financial Partners (Switzerland) in 2023. In December 2023 IK sold Klingel Holding to Elos Medtech for €370 million.
