Zhigalovsky District
Zhigalovsky District is one of the 33 districts in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. It was established on July 28, 1926. The administrative center is Zhigalovo, a work settlement.
The district covers 22,640 square kilometers. The population was 9,340 in the 2010 census, with Zhigalovo accounting for about 57.5% of the district’s people. Population has declined since 1989.
Geography: The district sits in the Lena-Angara Plateau. The Ilga and Tutura rivers, tributaries of the Lena River, flow through the area.
Administrative and municipal structure: There is 1 urban-type settlement and 36 rural localities. Municipally, Zhigalovsky District is divided into 1 urban settlement and 10 rural settlements.
Main settlements include Ust-Ilga, Konstantinovka, Lukinovo, Bachai, Zakharova, Timoshino, Butyrina, Kaidakan, Chikan, Tutura, Kelora, Chichek, Kachen, Rudovka, Znamenka, and Nizhnyaya Sloboda.
