IMDEA
IMDEA is a group of advanced research institutes based in Madrid, Spain. It was founded in 2006 by the Madrid regional government as part of the PRICIT plan (2005–2008) to strengthen research and higher education in the Community of Madrid.
From 2006 to 2008, nine IMDEA Institutes were created. Two of them, Mathematics and Social Sciences, were later closed, leaving seven institutes, each focused on a different field of knowledge.
Each institute is run by its own independent foundation and governed by a Board of Trustees, who appoint the Director. Trustees can be scientists, university or research-center experts, or industry professionals. Each institute also has a Scientific Council (or Advisory Board) made up of researchers who help plan the institute’s work, review progress, and propose renewals of trustees and other scientific decisions.
