Hollywood Sikh Temple
Hollywood Sikh Temple, also known as Hollywood Sikh Gurdwara or Vermont Gurdwara, is a Sikh temple in Los Angeles. It is located at 1966 N Vermont Avenue and 4624–4636 W Finley Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood.
The original temple opened in 1969 in a converted residence, founded by Dr. Amarjit Marwah. It was one of the first Sikh temples in the United States after India’s independence. In 2019, the intersection near the temple was renamed Dr. Amarjit Marwah Square in honor of the founder.
In 1986 a larger temple was built, and the current temple opened in 1996. It underwent a major remodel from 2016 to 2019. In 2023, the temple was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 1292 for its important role in the Sikh community and local history.
The building is a square, concrete-and-stucco structure with ornate facades on Finley and Vermont avenues. It has arches, arcades, and gold lettering, and its roof features 23 gold-painted onion domes. Inside, the first floor holds an entrance hall, main prayer hall, a kitchen for langar, a shoe room, and other rooms. The main hall has high ceilings, chandeliers, a mural of the Golden Temple, and a throne. The second floor includes a room for the Guru Granth Sahib, a canopy throne, a library, and sleeping quarters. The space is well preserved.
