AJ Akuoko-Sarpong
AJ Akuoko-Sarpong, also known as AJ Sarpong, is a Ghanaian broadcaster and media personality. She was born on October 28, 1991. She currently works for Media General, the company that owns TV3 Ghana, 3FM, Onua FM, and other outlets. She has also worked for Citi FM/TV and the EIB Network. In addition to presenting, she does event hosting, content production and voice-over work.
Early life
AJ is the daughter of Nana Kwame Akuoko-Sarpong, the paramount chief of the Agogo Traditional Area, and Alice Afful Asamah. She is the youngest of 15 children. She grew up in Ghana and in the United Kingdom. Her family background ties her to Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Education
AJ started at Sacs Kindergarten, then attended Alsyd Academy and Englebert School in Accra. She moved through Akosombo International and Galaxy International School, switching from the Ghanaian system to the Cambridge system in the UK. She was home-schooled for her A levels. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon. She has two Master’s degrees: one in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and another in Brands and Communication Management from UPSA (University of Professional Studies, Accra).
Career
AJ has more than 13 years of experience in television and radio production and presentation, plus event production, MC work and media concepts.
- GhanaMusic.com: She started as associate editor and on-air presenter for events coverage, hosting a weekly music countdown and interviewing many stars, including Ludacris, D’banj, Wande Coal, 2face Idibia and others. She also worked at YFM Ghana from 2010 to 2014 as a Friday night presenter.
- EIB Networks (GHOne TV, Starr FM, Live FM): After GHOne TV joined EIB, she hosted and produced several shows, such as the Weekly Girl Talk Show, Tales from the Powder Room and Live from the Capital on Live FM. She also hosted a daily entertainment segment on GHOne TV and the radio version on Starr FM.
- Citi FM/TV: In 2017 she left EIB and joined Citi FM and Citi TV. She hosted the Citi Breakfast Show, then the mid-morning show Brunch in the Citi, and was involved in other Citi TV programs like Hall of Fame, Voice Factory and the Chat.
- Media General: In 2023 she moved to Media General, working with TV3 Ghana, 3FM, Onua FM and related channels. She continues to be active as a broadcaster, content creator and event host.
Honours
In early 2017, AJ Sarpong was honored by students of the Elizabeth Sey Frances Hall at the University of Ghana for her work and journey in the media.
