Deunte Heath
Deunte Heath is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball and in Japan and Mexico. Born on August 28, 1985, in Atlanta, Georgia, he batted and threw right-handed. Heath appeared in MLB for the Chicago White Sox and in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and the Saitama Seibu Lions. He made his MLB debut on September 1, 2012, and his last MLB game was June 19, 2013. His NPB debut came on August 24, 2014, with Hiroshima, and his final NPB game was September 14, 2019, with Seibu. In MLB, his career record was 0-0 with a 10.24 ERA and 4 strikeouts. In Japan, he went 12-10 with a 2.66 ERA and 181 strikeouts.
Heath’s professional journey began in Georgia, where he attended Newton County High School, Lake City Community College, and the University of Tennessee after being drafted several times but not signing. He finally joined the Chicago White Sox organization in 2010 and worked his way through the minors before reaching the majors in 2012.
After MLB, Heath played in the Mexican League for Vaqueros Laguna and Pericos de Puebla, serving as Puebla’s closer in 2016. In 2018 he moved to Japan, starting with the Toyama Thunderbirds and then being traded to the Saitama Seibu Lions, where he played through 2019, including a season with 13 saves in 2018. He returned to Mexico in 2022 with Acereros de Monclova and later played for Saraperos de Saltillo in 2023. Heath retired from professional baseball on May 15, 2024.
