Guinea-Bissau at the 2012 Summer Paralympics

Guinea-Bissau made its Paralympic debut at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. The team had two athletes: Cesar Lopes Cardoso and Ussumane Cande, both competing in track and field. They did not win any medals.

Background: Guinea-Bissau is a West African country that first competed in the Summer Olympics in 1996. It joined the International Paralympic Committee in 1997, but 2012 was its first Paralympic Games.

Cesar Lopes Cardoso competed in the men's T46 400 metres. T46 is for athletes with upper limb impairments. In heat 1, Cardoso ran 55.08 seconds, the slowest time in his heat, finishing last overall and did not advance to the final. The heat was won by Günther Matzinger of Austria.

Ussumane Cande competed in two events: the women's T46 100 metres and the women's T46 400 metres. In the 100 metres, she finished heat 2 with 14.87 seconds, last in her heat of six, and did not advance to the final. She was 2.05 seconds behind the heat winner, Wang Yanping of China. In the 400 metres, the final was won by Yunidis Castillo of Cuba, and Cande did not race in the final.
