Paul Browne (footballer)
Paul Gerard Browne (born 17 February 1976 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a central defender. He began his career with Aston Villa in England, making two Premier League appearances in the 1995-96 season before moving to Raith Rovers in 1996.
At Raith, Browne made over 200 appearances and scored several goals, debuting against Rangers. He stayed with Raith through their relegation and into the following seasons, with a notable 1998-99 season marked by disciplinary problems and a 1999-2000 season that saw him score four goals. The 2001-02 season ended with Raith being relegated to the Scottish Second Division.
In 2002 he was loaned to Arbroath, and in 2003 he had spells with Hinckley United (loan) and Nuneaton Borough before returning to Arbroath for the 2003-04 season. After Raith, he played in junior football with Lochore Welfare and then St Andrews United, helping St Andrews win promotion in 2009.
Browne was capped once by Scotland under-21s during his time with Aston Villa. After retiring, he moved into coaching, serving as under-20s manager for Kirkcaldy & Dysart FC in 2020 and becoming assistant manager of Dundonald Bluebell’s first team in 2021.
