Carlos Tearney
Carlos Tearney is an American martial artist from Central New York and a highly regarded karate instructor, known as a 14-time Karate World Champion. He began training in 1983 under Greg Tearney and earned his black belt in 1992. He currently holds a fourth-degree black belt in Okinawan Goju Ryu and holds the title Renshi, given to master instructors at that level or higher. He is also a Level 3 Krav Maga instructor and has trained in many other arts, including Muay Thai, Eskrima, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, Harimau, and Panantukan.
Tearney’s world titles include five National Blackbelt League World Grand Championship titles and three team titles, plus three World Karate and Kickboxing Council titles (two individual, one team). Known by the nickname “Showtime,” he appeared in season 1 of Chuck Norris’ World Combat League, initially with the Los Angeles Stars and later with the New York Clash, fighting in four episodes with a 4–4 record.
He is the owner and head instructor of Champions Martial Arts and Fitness, offering training in multiple martial arts along with self-defense and kickboxing-based fitness. He was named International Martial Arts Instructor of the Year in 1998 and 2003 by the Educational Funding Company, which represents more than 2,000 martial arts schools worldwide. He earned a Personal Trainer certification in 2007 through the W.I.T.S. program and integrates full-body fitness into his teaching.
