Ivo Gönner (born 18 February 1952 in Laupheim) is a German politician from the Social Democratic Party (SPD). He was the Lord Mayor of Ulm from 1992 until 29 February 2016. His father was a pharmacist. He grew up in Laupheim, studied law in Heidelberg and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. In 1992 he became Lord Mayor of Ulm, succeeding Ernst Ludwig (CDU). He was re-elected in 1999 and 2007. On 29 February 2016 he stepped down and was succeeded by Gunter Czisch (CDU). On 23 April 2016 he received the Order of Merit of Baden-Württemberg from Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann. He is married to journalist Susanne Schwarzkopf-Gönner and has two children.
