My Lover, My Son (also known as Hush-a-bye Murder) is a 1970 drama film from the United States and United Kingdom directed by John Newland. It stars Romy Schneider as Francesca, with Dennis Waterman as her son James and Donald Houston as Robert. The story is based on the 1952 novel Reputation for a Song by Edward Grierson.

Plot: Francesca is unhappy in her marriage to Robert. She is deeply attached to her son James, who reminds her of her late lover Macer. She knows James is actually Macer’s son, not Robert’s, and she grows jealous as James falls in love with a girl named Julie. In a heated moment, James kills Robert. At his trial, Francesca testifies to help him, and James is found not guilty. He then chooses to stay with Julie rather than remain with his mother.

Reception: Critics described the film as visually stylish with strong performances, but said the script was weak and the story felt cliché. Some suggested Romy Schneider was not the best choice for the mother role. The movie runs 96 minutes and was released in May 1970.
