Andrew McGovern

Andrew Grant McGovern (born 7 April 1968) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the AFL for the Sydney Swans and Fremantle. He came from Claremont in the WAFL and was the 4th pick in the 1991 AFL draft.

McGovern made his AFL debut in round 2, 1992, against West Coast at the Sydney Football Ground. He played 20 games and kicked 7 goals for the Sydney Swans from 1992 to 1993. After leaving Sydney, he returned to Western Australia in 1994, captaining the WA state team to a win over South Australia while playing for Claremont.

In 1995 he joined Fremantle, where he mostly played as a defender and appeared in 63 games through 1998. In total, McGovern played 83 AFL games and kicked 9 goals. After his AFL career, he continued to play for Claremont in the WAFL and later became involved with the Clontarf Football Academy.

His sons Jeremy and Mitch are both pursuing AFL careers, with Jeremy listed at West Coast and Mitch at Carlton.
