Unison (song)
"Unison" is a song written by Bruce Roberts and Andy Goldmark. It was first recorded by English singer Junior in 1983 for the movie All the Right Moves, where it was a minor hit. In 1990, three female artists released covers of the song: Laura Branigan on her self-titled album, Lory Bianco on Lonely Is the Night, and Canadian singer Celine Dion on her English debut album Unison. Dion’s version, produced by Goldmark, is the title track of the album and was released as the second single in Canada on July 9, 1990 (and as the fourth single in Japan in 1991). The track runs 4:12. For the single, several remixes by Kevin Unger were issued to create dance-pop versions, some featuring rap by Frankie Fudge. The music video for the single mix, directed by Robin Miller, includes rap by Fudge. Critics gave positive reviews and it earned a Juno nomination for Dance Recording of the Year. In Canada, the song peaked at number 38 on The Record Retail Singles Chart and topped the RPM Canadian Dance Chart for seven weeks. The song helped raise Dion’s profile and contributed to her eventual U.S. breakthrough.
