Victorian Pride Lobby
The Victorian Pride Lobby is a community-based advocacy group in Victoria that works for equality, social justice, and human rights for lesbian, gay, queer, bisexual, and other same-sex attracted people. It collaborates with the broader LGBTIQA+ community and works with other organizations, rather than speaking on behalf of trans and gender-diverse, intersex, or asexual people themselves.
The Lobby began in October 1997 after a report proposed a model for a Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby. Twenty-one days later, it held its first annual general meeting, elected a management committee, adopted rules, and began the process of incorporation.
In 2020, the organization changed its name to the Victorian Pride Lobby to reflect its broader focus and goals.
The Lobby has worked on issues such as domestic partnerships, access to in vitro fertilisation and adoption, and ending homophobic violence. It also initiated the national Equal Love campaign to win marriage rights for Australian gay and lesbian couples.
The Committee is elected by the membership at the annual general meeting and is made up of up to 10 current members from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and same-sex attracted community. The Committee of Management runs the day-to-day affairs, with each member usually leading a portfolio or working group.
Current Co-Convenors are Austin Fabry-Jenkins and Liam Elphick.
