St John's Church, Doddington

St John's Church in Doddington, Cheshire, is an active Anglican parish church located in the grounds of Doddington Hall. It serves the parish along with St James, Audlem, and St Chad, Wybunbury, and is part of the Diocese of Chester.

The church is a Grade II listed building. It was built in 1837, funded by the Delves Broughton family of Doddington Hall, and designed by architect Edward Lapidge. It is made of yellow ashlar sandstone with a slate roof.

The church has a single open space with no separation between nave and chancel, plus a northeast vestry and a west porch. The gabled porch features a datestone with the Delves Broughton arms. Above the porch is a triple stepped lancet window, and a roundel with a carved dog’s head. At the corners are angle buttresses that rise to octagonal pinnacles topped with spires, and a bellcote sits on the top of the gable.

Along the sides are lancet windows between buttresses. The vestry has a double lancet window, and the east end has a triple lancet window with a cross finial on its gable. The west front is described by the Buildings of England as gauche (ungraceful).
