Impressions de France
Impressions de France
Impressions de France is a short film at the France Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase, Walt Disney World in Florida. It opened on October 1, 1982 and is one of the park’s original attractions. The film is shown in the Palais du Cinéma on a large five-screen setup that covers about 200 degrees, giving a wide, immersive view like a Cinerama screen.
The 18-minute movie takes guests on a virtual tour of France, from the countryside to major cities, highlighting famous places such as the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, the French Alps, Versailles, Cannes, Notre-Dame, and Normandy.
The soundtrack is a lively classical score arranged by Buddy Baker, featuring works by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Boieldieu, and Offenbach. The music was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded digitally, making Impressions de France one of the first films with a fully digital soundtrack. The film was directed by Rick Harper and written and co-produced by Bob Rogers, with narration by Claude Gobet.
The film runs daily and even holds a Guinness World Record for the longest-running daily screening of a film in the same theater. It is wheelchair accessible, with assistive listening and closed captions available.
As of January 2020, the Palais du Cinéma began alternating showings between Impressions de France and a Beauty and the Beast sing-along.
