Vergennes Township, Jackson County, Illinois
Vergennes Township is one of sixteen townships in Jackson County, Illinois. It covers about 37.3 square miles, with most of that land and a small amount of water. It was established on November 4, 1884.
As of 2020, 717 people lived in the township, with 268 households and 321 housing units. The population density is about 19 people per square mile. The two cemeteries in the township are Parrish and Tuthill.
Racial makeup is about 94% White, with small percentages of other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race make up about 2%.
Households: 28% had children under 18, 52% were married couples, 16% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26% were non-families. About 22% of households were individuals, and 15% had someone 65 or older living alone. Average household size is 2.79 and average family size is 3.24.
