Trent Lehman
Trent Lehman, born Trenton Lawson Lehman on February 23, 1961, in Los Angeles, was a child actor best known for playing Bentley “Butch” Everett on the 1970s TV show Nanny and the Professor. He also appeared as a young Christine Jorgensen in The Christine Jorgensen Story and had roles on Gunsmoke and Emergency!. His last acting credit was in 1973.
Growing up in the Los Angeles area (Arleta) and later North Hollywood, Lehman faced difficulties finding acting work as he entered his teens. His family briefly moved to Colorado, but he eventually returned to California. Days before his death, he reconnected with a former classmate from Vena Avenue Elementary in Pacoima. The classmate said Lehman had asked for a gun after a breakup and a burglary at his apartment.
On January 18, 1982, at age 20, Lehman died by hanging outside Vena Avenue Elementary School. His death, along with those of other former child actors, helped inspire Paul Petersen to create A Minor Consideration, a group that advocates for the well-being of child stars.
