Cryptantha pterocarya
Cryptantha pterocarya, commonly known as wingnut cryptantha, is a flowering plant in the borage family. Conservation status: Secure (NatureServe). It is native to the western United States and grows in many kinds of habitats. It is an annual herb with a branched stem up to about 40 cm tall. Leaves are linear to oblong and up to 5 cm long. The plant is very hairy or bristly. The inflorescence carries developing fruits with one or more open flowers. The flowers have a white five-lobed corolla. The fruit is a nutlet, often winged. Scientific name: Cryptantha pterocarya (Torr.) Greene.
