Tony Moore (artist)
Tony Moore is an American comic-book artist known for horror and science fiction. He was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky. His breakout work includes The Walking Dead, Fear Agent, and The Exterminators. He also co-created the Invincible Universe character Brit.
Moore’s first major comic was Battle Pope (2000), created with his childhood friend Robert Kirkman. They self-published it under Funk-O-Tron, and it led to eight animated webisodes on Spike TV in 2008. Moore and Kirkman later launched Brit and The Walking Dead at Image Comics. He drew the first six issues of The Walking Dead and did covers through issue 24. The series earned Eisner Award nominations in 2004 and 2005. Its popularity grew after the TV adaptation, increasing the value of Moore’s early artwork.
He then co-created The Exterminators with Simon Oliver and Fear Agent with Rick Remender. Moore also contributed covers to various titles and worked on Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Punisher, and was the artist for Venom from 2010 to 2012.
In 2012, Moore and Kirkman publicly disputed rights and payments related to The Walking Dead, a matter they settled later that year. In 2018, Moore began collaborating with Kentucky musician Tyler Childers, doing cover art for Country Squire and related promotional work. He also contributed to the All Your’n music video in 2019 and directed an animated video for the album’s title track in 2020.
