SEAT Ateca – quick overview
The SEAT Ateca is a compact crossover SUV from Spanish automaker SEAT. It uses the Volkswagen Group MQB A1 platform and sits in the C-segment, between the Arona and Tarraco in SEAT’s lineup. It was first shown as a production-ready model in March 2016 and went on sale in September 2016. The Ateca is named after Ateca, a village near Zaragoza, Spain.
Production and design
- Built at Škoda’s plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic (shared with the Skoda Karoq) to help lower costs.
- The design and features were updated in a 2020 facelift, including new front/rear bumpers, LED lighting, a revised grille, and interior upgrades.
Models and performance
- Trim levels: S (base), SE, and Xcellence (top). There is also the Cupra Ateca, a performance version.
- Cupra Ateca: 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with 300 horsepower, 7-speed DSG automatic, and all-wheel drive. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.4 seconds and has a top speed around 245 km/h. It features a distinctive look with a copper Cupra badge, quad exhausts, and extra sports equipment.
- Standard Ateca features a well-equipped interior, including options like an 8-inch touchscreen (9.2-inch screen optional), wireless charging, and a digital instrument cluster.
Engines and transmissions
- Petrol engines: 1.0 TSI (115 hp); 1.5 EcoTSI (150 hp); 2.0 TSI (190 hp). Cupra uses the higher-performance 2.0 TSI engine.
- Diesel engines: 1.6 TDI (115 hp) and 2.0 TDI (150 or 190 hp).
- Transmissions: 6-speed manual; 7-speed DSG (available from 2017 to 2020); 8-speed automatic (from 2021).
Safety and ratings
- Euro NCAP: 5-star rating (2016 European market).
- Latin NCAP: 5-star rating with an Advanced Award for basic Latin American configuration (2017), including 7 airbags in that setup.
