Chupaderas Creek
Chupaderas Creek is a small waterway in Bexar County, Texas. It begins east of Martinez and runs about ten miles to its mouth on Calaveras Creek. In the mid-1800s, William Budd Jaques, a friend of Stephen F. Austin, owned a large ranch along the creek and ran a major hog operation east of San Antonio. In 1969, the Calaveras Lake Dam raised the water level and flooded the lower part of the creek, submerging the Jaques Rancho beneath Calaveras Lake. The name Chupaderas comes from Spanish and means pacifiers.
