Global Ports
Global Ports is a public container-terminal operator based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Founded in 2008 from assets of the N-Trans Group, it runs terminals in the Baltic and Far East, plus two terminals in Finland. The Russian network includes five terminals: Petrolesport, First Container Terminal (the largest in Russia), Ust-Luga Container Terminal, Moby Dik, and Eastern Stevedoring Company at Vostochny Port. It also operates Yanino Logistics Park, a dry port near St. Petersburg. In Finland, Global Ports runs Multi-Link Terminals in Helsinki and Kotka. The group employs about 2,960 people and oversees a total capacity of around 3.9 million TEU on 400 hectares.
Global Ports began trading on the London Stock Exchange in 2011 with a market value of about $2.35 billion; the IPO raised $534 million, with roughly 25% of the company available to public investors. In 2012, APM Terminals bought 37.5% of Global Ports, and Global Ports acquired a 25% stake in the Eastern Stevedoring Company from DP World in return. In 2013, Global Ports bought the National Container Company, gaining 100% of First Container Terminal, 80% of Ust-Luga, and 100% of the Logistics-Terminal (a dry port). After the acquisition, major shareholders’ stakes shifted to about 30.75% each for N-Trans and APM Terminals, with the public float around 20.5%.
In 2017 the company sold Logistics-Terminal to TransContainer. In 2018 Delo Group bought a 30.75% stake from N-Trans. In 2019 Global Ports sold the Vopak EOS terminal in Estonia. In 2022 Delo Group increased its stake to 61.5% by purchasing shares from APM Terminals. In 2023 the company began delisting from the London Stock Exchange and moved its legal domicile from Cyprus to Russia, establishing a presence on Russky Island in Primorsky Krai.
The group’s terminals offer a range of capabilities: First Container Terminal is the largest in Russia, located in the Big Port of St. Petersburg with direct links to major Asian ports and rail/road connections to central Russia. Petrolesport serves the St. Petersburg region and connects to rail and road networks. Ust-Luga handles coal and other cargo from the new deep-water port in Luga Bay. Moby Dik in Kronstadt provides versatile cargo handling and access to the St. Petersburg Ring Road. Yanino Logistics Park expands warehousing near St. Petersburg. ROLIS, Global Ports’ IT arm, has driven digital improvements such as electronic document flow and later paperless processing for exports and imports (completed in 2020). Multi-Link Terminals in Finland are a 50/50 venture with CMA Terminals, operating terminals in Helsinki and Kotka, with operations moved to Vuossari in Helsinki in 2008-2009.
In May 2023, Russian rating agency Expert RA upgraded Global Ports Investments Plc to ruAA with a stable outlook.
