Nitropropane
Nitropropane refers to two related chemicals made by attaching a nitro group (-NO2) to a propane molecule. The two main forms are:
- 1-nitropropane, where the nitro group is on the end carbon.
- 2-nitropropane, where the nitro group is on the middle carbon.
Both are colorless liquids used mainly as solvents in coatings, plastics, and other chemical manufacturing, and as building blocks to make other chemicals such as amines and fragrances. They should be handled with care because they are flammable and can be toxic if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Store them in a cool, dry place away from heat and flames and use proper ventilation and protective equipment when handling.
