History: Ajmer began as a metre-gauge station with links to Chittaurgarh, Ahmedabad, and Phulera. In the 1990s, the Delhi–Jaipur and Jaipur–Ahmedabad lines were converted to broad gauge. Over time, the remaining lines were converted as well, and by around 2007 the line toward Ratlam via Chittorgarh was converted to broad gauge, making Ajmer a major broad-gauge junction.
