Majia, Pingtung
Majia Township (瑪家鄉) is a mountain indigenous area in Pingtung County, Taiwan. The main residents are the Paiwan people. In the Paiwan language, the area is called Makazayazaya. A local mountain pitviper, Ovophis monticola makazayazaya, is named after Majia.
During Japanese rule, Majia was grouped with Sandimen and Wutai as an Aboriginal Area under the Heitō District of Takao Prefecture.
The township covers about 79 square kilometers and has around 6,742 residents (February 2024). It includes six villages: Beiye, Jiayi, Liangshan, Majia, Paiwan, and Sanhe.
