Nicolae Haralambie
Nicolae Haralambie (August 27, 1835 – April 3, 1908) was a Romanian soldier and politician from Bucharest. In 1861 he led the Bucharest police. As a colonel he helped dethrone Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza in 1866 and then served on a regency with Lascăr Catargiu and Nicolae Golescu. He was War Minister from August 6, 1866, to February 7, 1867. On July 7, 1874, he, Ion Ghica, and a third person flew over Bucharest in a hydrogen balloon named Mihai Bravul. He returned to the army in 1877 and fought in the War of Independence as a brigadier general, fighting with distinction at Smârdan and Vidin. He was elected senator in 1879 and helped form a coalition that toppled Ion Brătianu's government.
