Zipper storage bag

Zipper storage bags are inexpensive, flexible plastic bags that can be opened and closed many times. They seal with a slider or by pinching the edges together. They come in many sizes, from about 1.5 by 2.5 inches to 9 by 12 inches, and thickness varies (smaller bags are about 40–45 micrometers). They are commonly used to store foods such as sandwiches, and they’re also handy for packaging small items for sale. Some bags have different reclosable features, and other cloth bags with zippers are sometimes called zipper bags.

Key milestones: a bag was patented by Robert W. Vergobbi on May 18, 1954; Minigrip licensed them the same year as pencil bags. In 1957, a fifth-grader named Robert Lejeune demonstrated that the bag can be used for food storage. Dow Chemical marketed them as Ziploc in 1968. Later improvements included Widetrack ribs (1982), clicking zippers (1993), and color options (1997).
