Nico Kaufmann (June 24, 1916 – November 23, 1996) was a Swiss pianist and composer from Zürich. His father, Willi Kaufmann-Ernst, was a doctor and composer, and his mother’s family was wealthy. He studied at the Zürich Conservatory and, for a short time in 1937, was Vladimir Horowitz’s only disciple after meeting the touring pianist at Theater Basel. Kaufmann won first prize at the VII Geneva Competition in 1945. Rather than pursuing a standard concert career, he became the composer, arranger, and musical director for Cabaret Cornichon, writing music for their shows and touring in Switzerland and beyond. He died in Zürich.
