Dennis Hughes (rugby union)
Dennis Hughes (born 3 July 1941 in Argoed, Caerphilly, Wales) is a former Welsh rugby union player. He played as a flanker for Newbridge RFC and also appeared for the Barbarian F.C. He worked as a bank clerk.
Hughes earned six caps for Wales between 1967 and 1970 and played in the 1970 Five Nations against Scotland, England and Ireland. In the Twickenham match with England, Hughes and Gareth Edwards both missed a tackle on Nigel Starmer-Smith, and Edwards was injured. Chico Hopkins came on with about 20 minutes left for his only Wales cap and helped the team stage a dramatic comeback: Hopkins set up a try for J. P. R. Williams, then scored one himself; Williams converted, and Barry John added a late drop goal to win.
