Mitsuo Mitani (三谷 光男, Mitani Mitsuo; born June 16, 1959) is a former Japanese politician from Kure, Hiroshima. An Osaka University graduate, he ran unsuccessfully in 2003 and in April 2005 before being elected to the House of Representatives in September 2005. He served in the Diet until November 2012. In parliament, he represented the Chūgoku proportional bloc (2005–2009) and Hiroshima 5th district (2009–2012). He was a member of the Democratic Party of Japan from 2003 to 2014 and later became independent. He was preceded by Koji Sato and succeeded by Minoru Terada.
