BoardGameGeek (BGG) is a popular online hub for board game fans. It has a huge database with reviews, pictures, and videos for more than 125,600 tabletop games, including European-style games, wargames, and card games. Users can rate games on a 1–10 scale and view a ranked list of top games.

BGG was founded in January 2000 by Scott Alden and Derk Solko. Since 2005, it hosts the annual BGG.CON convention, where people can play games and Golden Geek Award winners are announced. There are also a Spring BGG.CON for families and a BGG@Sea cruise event.

The site has earned several honors, including the Diana Jones Award in 2010 and being called “the hub of board gaming on the Internet” by The New York Times. In 2020, BoardGameGeek was inducted into the Origins Award Hall of Fame. The site has expanded to other areas with RPGGeek and VideoGameGeek.

Each year since 2006, BGG has given the Golden Geek Award for the best new board games, based on user votes. RPG and Video game awards ran from 2014 to 2017, with only one category in 2018 and none in later years. In 2020, award categories were reorganized into new groups like Game of the Year, Light, Medium and Heavy.
