Slepče, Demir Hisar
Slepče (Macedonian: Слепче) is a village in Demir Hisar Municipality, North Macedonia. It sits on the eastern slopes of Ilinica, about 2 km west of Demir Hisar town, near the road linking Kičevo and Demir Hisar. The village covers 24.5 square kilometers, with forests making up about 17.4 square kilometers, arable land about 3.7 square kilometers, and pastures about 3.7 square kilometers.
In 2002, 719 people lived there. Historical records from 1467/1468 show 66 households, 3 bachelors, and 2 widows with Christian Slavic names. In 1900, Vasil Kanchov reported 570 Christian Bulgarians in Slepče.
A cultural life exists with a House of Culture; in March 2013 a Grishko facility opened there, employing about 60 people and producing ballet shoes, costumes, fitness gear, and related products sold in over 60 countries.
The village has a cultural center and a memorial to those who died for Macedonia’s freedom. Above the village is the Slepčan Monastery, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, which has been renovated and turned into a square called "King Samuel."
