Mr. Microchip is a live-action educational kids’ show about computer technology and the early 1980s home computer boom. It features 8-bit machines like the Apple II, Commodore, Atari 8-bit, and Tandy.

The series aired in Canada on CBC from 1983 to 1985 and later appeared in the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa, but it was never shown in the United States. It was created by Skip Lumley and Michael Hirsh, produced by Nelvana and Ventura Pictures, and directed by Peter Jennings. A total of 13 episodes were made, and the same scripts were later used for a French version called M. Micropuce with different Quebecois actors.

Designed for school audiences aged 9 to 15, the show teaches basic computer concepts through hands-on demonstrations in Skip’s workshop. Viewers accompany Skip, his neighbor Stevie Grosfield (12) and his sister Dayna Simon (10) as they learn with the help of an artificial intelligence computer named Lumley and a robot named Hero.

Hardware, software, and electronics used on the show were donated by companies promoting their products at the time. The series has not been released on home video or DVD.

Episode topics include information, programming, memory, codes, counting, pixels, music, games, and more.
