Mitsuhiro Ishida
Mitsuhiro Ishida, nicknamed The Endless Warrior, is a retired Japanese mixed martial artist born on December 29, 1978, in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan. He stood 5'6" tall, fought at about 143 pounds, and competed in featherweight and lightweight divisions. He came from a Greco-Roman wrestling background and trained with Team T-Blood in Tokyo. Ishida fought from 2001 to 2012 in promotions such as Shooto, PRIDE, DREAM, Strikeforce, and DEEP, recording 29 bouts (20 wins, 8 losses, 1 draw) with 3 knockouts, 2 submissions, and 15 decision wins.
He began his pro career on July 6, 2001, in Shooto: To the Top 6, losing his debut to Daisuke Sugie before winning his next four fights. On February 17, 2006, he defeated Kenichiro Togashi to become the Shooto Pacific Rim Welterweight Champion. Ishida won his first four PRIDE bouts, including wins over Marcus Aurelio and Cristiano Marcello, but lost to Takanori Gomi at PRIDE Shockwave 2006, which prevented a mandatory title defense in 2007.
At Yarennoka! he handed Gilbert Melendez his first loss. He made his United States debut in Strikeforce, defeating Justin Wilcox by armbar. On March 15, 2008, he won the opening round of the DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix by defeating Jung Bu-Kyung, but then lost to Caol Uno in the quarterfinals. He later defeated Daisuke Nakamura at DREAM 7 and had further fights in Shooto and Strikeforce. Ishida announced his retirement on July 6, 2012.
