Red Rum Club is a British alternative/indie rock band from Bootle, Merseyside. The group formed in 2016 when six musicians who had never all met before began playing together, even sharing a rehearsal space and weekly boxing sessions to bond. The members are Fran Doran (vocals), Tom Williams (guitar and backing vocals), Michael McDermott (guitar and backing vocals), Simon Hepworth (bass), Joe “the Blow” Corby (trumpet), and Neil Lawson (drums). Their debut album, Matador, reached the UK Top 50 and got airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6 Music. In 2024 they released Western Approaches, which peaked at number 8 on the UK Albums Chart. Their sound blends alternative rock, indie rock and Americana, influenced by Bootle’s seafaring and industrial history as well as their US touring. They have toured in the UK and the United States and have played in Romania, South Korea and Sweden, often drawing comparisons to The Zutons.
