Giuseppe Allevi
Giuseppe Allevi (also spelled Giuseppe Levi) was an Italian Baroque composer. He was born in 1603 or 1604, probably in Piacenza, and died on July 18, 1670. His ballet Le ninfe del Po premiered in Piacenza during Carnival in 1644, performed for visiting Francesco I d’Este and Maria Caterina Farnese, the Duke and Duchess of Modena. By 1652 he was the maestro di cappella (music director) at Piacenza Cathedral, a position he held until his death. Some sources list his year of death as 1668. He mainly wrote concertato motets.
