MidBoss
MidBoss is an American video game and media company based in San Francisco. It was founded on August 2, 2012 by Matt Conn and members of the GaymerX team, expanding beyond GaymerX into projects like Gaming in Color and 2064: Read Only Memories.
In 2018, Matt Conn stepped down as CEO after allegations of sexual abuse, underpaying workers, and workplace harassment. Cade Peterson became CEO in April 2018.
Projects and products
- 2064: Read Only Memories — a cyberpunk adventure game released for Windows, macOS, Linux, SteamOS, and Ouya on October 6, 2015, and for PlayStation 4 on January 17, 2017. It was funded on Kickstarter with $64,378 raised on December 12, 2013.
- Gaming in Color — a documentary about queer gamers and LGBTQ representation in games. It was funded by Kickstarter in May 2013 and distributed by Devolver Digital for major platforms on May 19, 2015.
GaymerX and fandom
MidBoss ran the first three GaymerX conventions, LGBTQ-focused gaming events started by Matt Conn. GaymerX began with a Kickstarter launched in February 2012, reaching its goal of $25,000 and ending with just over $91,000. The first convention took place August 3–4, 2013 in San Francisco. MidBoss became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in late 2015.
