The Twenty-Third Man
The Twenty-Third Man is a 1957 mystery novel by Gladys Mitchell. It is the thirtieth book in the Mrs Bradley series, featuring the psychoanalyst and amateur detective Dame Beatrice Bradley. While holidaying in the Canary Islands, Dame Beatrice visits a small island famous for a cave where the bodies of twenty-three mummified ancient kings lie buried. One tourist, Karl Emden, is found in the cave as the twenty-fourth corpse. Dame Beatrice begins to investigate the passengers who arrived with her, suspecting that one of them is the killer.
