C. R. Vijayakumari
C. R. Vijayakumari is an Indian actress who appeared in Tamil films from 1953 to 2003. She was born in 1938 in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. She started in films under the name Mohana, later choosing Vijayakumari. She is known for her ability to transform into the characters she plays and for her clear Tamil diction and delivery.
Film career
Vijayakumari acted in many Tamil films. Some of her notable movies include Naalvar (1953), Kula Deivam (1956), Petra Maganai Vitra Annai (1958), Vanjikottai Valiban (1958) as Gowri, Kalyana Parisu (1959) as Geetha, Aalayamani (1962) as Prema, Policekaran Magal (1962) as Janaki, Naanum Oru Penn (1963) as Kalyani, and Poompuhar (1964) where she played Kannagi. Her role in Poompuhar is famous for featuring one of the longest dialogues spoken by a female actor at that time, written by M. Karunanidhi. She also appeared in many other Tamil films through the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and beyond.
Personal life
Vijayakumari had a 12-year relationship with actor S. S. Rajendran from 1961 to 1973. They have a son named Ravikumar, born in 1963. S. S. Rajendran passed away in 2014.
