Friden railway station
Friden railway station was on the Cromford and High Peak Railway in Derbyshire, England, serving the villages of Friden and Newhaven. It was on the line from High Peak Junction near Cromford to Parsley Hay near Buxton.
The line opened in the 1830s to connect Cromford Canal with the Peak Forest, helping goods move between Manchester and the East Midlands more easily.
Friden station opened in 1855 but passenger services were limited; it closed to passengers in 1877, while freight traffic continued until the line itself shut in 1967. A goods yard near Friden moved minerals and quarry traffic and also closed in 1967; nothing remains of it today.
In 1971 the trackbed was turned into the High Peak Trail for walkers and cyclists. The trail now passes the station site, with only part of the platform visible. The station master’s house, renamed Station House, is a Grade II listed building (listed in 1984).
The route connected places like Cromford, Wirksworth, Buxton and Whaley Bridge and offered connections at Parsley Hay to other lines. The line was mainly used for freight, with passenger services never a priority.
